Hemiscope: the daily country guessing game
Hemiscope hides one country a day. You find it by guessing other countries: each guess tells you how far away the mystery country is, which way to head, and how it compares on region, population, area, flag colours and coastline. You have 8 guesses, and everyone plays the same country.
Play today's Hemiscope →How to play
- Type any country and pick it from the list. Every country in the world can be guessed, small islands included.
- Read the clues: the distance in kilometres and an arrow pointing toward the answer, then the region, population, area, flag colours and whether it's landlocked.
- Use them to narrow it down. Distances run between the nearest borders, so a neighbour of the answer shows 0 km.
- Find the country before your guesses run out, or give up to see it on the globe.
Scoring
- Green means a match, yellow means close: the same continent but another region, a population or area within half again, or some flag colours in common.
- The share grid shows one row of six squares per guess, so friends can see how you got there without seeing the answer.
- Your stats keep games played, win rate, your streak and your average number of guesses.
Tips
- Open with a big, central country such as Germany, Egypt or Brazil: a long first distance still points you at the right continent.
- Trust the arrow more than the number. Two guesses with arrows that cross pin down a small area fast.
- Population and area clues separate neighbours that sit at a similar distance.
Questions
- When does a new country come out?
- At midnight where you are. Each day's country is the same for every player.
- Can I play more than once a day?
- Yes: Practice gives you a random country from the full list, as many times as you like. Practice games don't touch your daily stats.
- Is Hemiscope like Worldle or Globle?
- It's in the same family of daily geography games, with more clues per guess: direction, region, population, area, flag colours and coastline as well as distance.
- Is it free?
- Yes, on the web and in the iPhone app, with no account needed.
